The canvases of Seema Kohli are multilayered with numerous myths, fables and experiences. Similar to a tapestry, the complexities in her art are shown by intricate yet elegantly crowded spaces giving rise to multiple narratives.  With over 35 years of experience in the field of contemporary art, Kohli’s vision includes a metaphorical display of a distorted mirror marked by myths and reality thus, combining the past with present. Her practise is diverse ranging from murals, paintings, sculptures, installations, films  and even performances.

In time Kohli’s, ‘Unborn Series’ gave way to the ‘Hiranya Garbha Koham’ series which translates to the ‘The Golden Womb.’ In the latter, she concentrates on rhythmic, a strong colour palette resting on a contradictory stance of order, change and chaos. It focuses on the idea of creation and liberation, a concept dating back to the Vedic times.

It is Seema Kohli’s unique ideas and  varied artistic take that has allowed her to present over 30 solo shows in cities across the world. Her recent venture includes discussing her artistic journey and practise in the form of a lecture series across distinguished universities in USA.

A teller of narratives, lets take a look at Seem Kohli's works of art.
